What a milestone! This July, the beautiful Norm O'Neill Cricket Training Facility celebrated its seventh anniversary by hosting its most successful Winter School Holiday Clinic period since opening its doors.
To see how far the program has come, Manager Hamish Solomons looked back on the facility's very beginnings. He fondly remembers running his final clinic at the Kingsgrove Cricket Academy during the first week of the 2019 winter holidays, before launching the very first Norm O'Neill Cricket Clinic in the second week with just 20 students.
Fast forward exactly seven years, and the growth of the facility and the local cricketing community has been absolutely phenomenal.
Smashing Records in Week One
The July 2026 school holidays kicked off with a bang. Our first week's clinic was totally booked out, bringing 45 keen young cricketers into the nets to refine their skills.
The facility was also able to step up and support the wider community at short notice. After the Sydney Sixers had to cancel their three-day clinic, St Andrews Cathedral College booked the facility for two days, running a successful, action-packed clinic for 24 of their own students.
Growing the Game in Week Two
The momentum did not slow down in the second week! We were thrilled to host two separate, highly successful one-day girls' clinics. Day one saw 15 talented girls take to the pitch, while day two grew even larger with 25 participants.
In addition to the girls' clinics, a further 37 cricketers enrolled in and attended our second general School Holiday Clinic.
A Winter Success Story
Altogether, we saw 82 core Norm O'Neill clinic attendees this winter, a fantastic leap from the 65 attendees we welcomed the year before.
Given that cricket is traditionally a summer sport, drawing these kinds of numbers in the dead of winter is a testament to the passion of our local young athletes and the quality of our coaching staff. We are incredibly pleased with these results and want to thank every single player, parent, and coach who made this our best winter yet.
