Norm O’Neill Supercoach, Greg Matchett Wins Major Award

Exciting news from our neighbours at the Norm O’Neill Cricket Training Facility, located right next door to Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre!

We’re proud to share that long time coach Greg Matchett has been honoured with the prestigious Clubperson of the Year award at the St George Sutherland Women’s Cricket Club Awards Night in May. This recognition celebrates Greg’s incredible contribution during a landmark season in which the club claimed its firsr ever 1st Grade title.

Since the Norm O’Neill Cricket Training Facility opened in July 2019, Greg has been a constant presence, offering consistent, high quality coaching built on his years of playing and captaincy experience at the renowned St George District Cricket Club.

When invited to work with the St George Sutherland Women’s Cricket Club, Greg embraced the opportunity to support and develop emerging female cricketers. His dedication and mentorship have had a profound impact, both on the players and on the growing female cricket program.

Hamish Solomons, Facility Manager at Norm O’Neill and Coaching Director at the club, shared:

“I have known Greg since Adam and Eve were around and in those early years, I admired the status he had earned at St George District Cricket Club for his skills and leadership. For this reason, when I started managing The Norm O'Neill Cricket Training Facility I had to have Greg as a part of our team. In the time since, I have seen Greg coach and mentor hundreds of up-and-coming cricketers. With the growth of female cricket I have witnessed Greg take a genuine interest in coaching young female cricketers so it was common sense that we aligned him with The St George Sutherland Womens Club which has worked out really well. Greg genuinely cares for the club and it's players and is a great asset to have at the ‘The Slayers’ as well as Norm O'Neill Cricket.”

As part of the BlueFit family, we’re excited to celebrate Greg’s well deserved recognition and proud of the role the Norm O’Neill Cricket Training Facility plays in supporting elite and grassroots sport in our community.
