In late August 2025, during our regular Table Tennis tournament, our team was faced with a significant medical emergency. Long term player and facility user, Bill, suffered a severe heart attack while at the club.
The Hurstville team immediately activated the emergency action plan. CPR was commenced, including the use of the on site defibrillator. Thanks to the swift efforts of the team on the ground, including community member and facility user, Jenkins, Bill was successfully resuscitated. Emergency services arrived, reviewed his condition, and he was transported to the hospital by paramedics with the best chance of survival.
After six months of recovery, we were delighted to welcome Bill back to Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre recently to meet and personally thank the local team for saving his life!

A special mention to Jenkins, who was unable to attend today.
Following his long recovery, which included just over five weeks in the hospital, Bill has been given a new chance at life. While he hasn't returned to competitive table tennis tournaments just yet, he is easing back into the sport by playing socially with friends. His medical team continues to support him, and although he is adjusting to some lifestyle changes, Bill is feeling positive about his new health and wellness journey.
To further support his recovery, Bill is now actively using our aquatic and wellness facilities, including the sauna, spa, and steam room here at Hurstville.
We extend our sincere thanks to the incredible Hurstville first responders, the bystanders, the paramedics, and Bill’s entire medical staff.
Welcome back, Bill. We are so glad to have you as part of the Hurstville family!
